In basic terms negotiating is the process of ‘getting to yes’. It is a form of advocacy - persuading someone else to your point of view.

In addition to settlement negotiations, the seminar is equally applicable to transactional negotiation. New contracts need to be agreed - existing contracts may need to be renegotiated. Changed circumstances create new opportunities and the need to negotiate successfully is self evident.

Negotiating skills or improved negotiating skills can be learned and this seminar fills the need, through practical negotiation exercises and case studies. For this reason places are strictly limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. This seminar is also suitable for in-house training of company personnel.

SPEAKER(S) BIOGRAPHY

Speaker: Prof Ian Blackshaw is a practising lawyer and academic who has made a particular study of negotiating. He has spent many years teaching and practising this subject at the national and international levels, especially in the field of sports business disputes. He is an experienced arbitrator and mediator in which negotiating skills play such a vital part.
