The presenter will explore how financial statements are structured, how accounts can be interpreted (particularly the relationship between the profit and loss account and the balance sheet) and how financial statements can be manipulated. It will cover:
Net assets, liquid assets, fixed assets, depreciation, useful life, asset valuation, stock and work in progress, age of debtors, debts due within one year, provisions, reserves, distributable profits, creditors buffer, off balance sheet finance
Gross profit, operating profit, EBIT, EBITDA, profit before tax, corporation tax, minority interest, profit for the financial year, directors remuneration, extraordinary and exceptional items
Speaker: Paul Hughes. Paul has spent the last 31 years working in finance; either in a consultancy or training role. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and has developed a programme of seminars which seeks to improve the financial awareness and understanding of lawyers.
